3rd Annual Jodi Lou Lung Cancer 5K Run/Walk

Saturday, June 12

Join the New Self team for this event as we support a good cause and kick off a summer of fitness. New Self has three members that were friends with Jodi Lou, so you would also be supporting fellow New Self members! Contact Christina if you are interested in being part of the New Self team for this event.

All proceeds from the run/walk will go to the Jodi Lou Lung Cancer Foundation, Inc., in supporting lung cancer research at the UW Carbone Cancer Center. Visit www.jodilou.org for more information and to register for the event.

Wear your New Self shirt for race day. Members who didn’t receive a shirt at one of last year’s events will receive a free shirt if they participate in this event. 2010 HOPES Walk for Awareness

The 12th annual HOPES (Helping Others Prevent & Educate about Suicide) walk for awareness will further it's message: "Look Closer. Listen Harder. Save a Life." 1000 Mile Journey

Mark your calendars for this event! The 1000 Mile Journey is a one mile walk around the Capitol Building in Madison, WI with 1000 or more participants. Taught by Angie Morgan, children will learn the fundamentals of yoga through the exploration of age-appropriate poses, story-telling and simple breathing to calm the body. This class will emphasize having fun and feeling good.

If you've been wanting to try Zumba, here's your chance! Due to the Good Friday holiday, our regular fitness schedule will not be held on April 2. Instead, we're pleased to offer Zumba at this special time.

Taught by certified instructor Alicia Butz, the Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. The goal is simple: love working out! The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you’ve got a Zumba® class!

African Youth Outreach • Drumming for Hope 2010

Belly Dance Fitness Class

Belly Dance Fitness uses the energizing movements of belly dance for a fun workout that targets the entire body. Emphasizes core sculpting and low-impact cardio interval dancing. No previous experience required.

Parents of children of all ages are welcome to join us for our very first Parenting Seminar! Our guest lecturer is New Self Member and Certified Love & Logic Instructor, Kathy Priem. Love & Logic is a philosophy of raising and teaching children that helps adults be happier and more skillfully empowered in their interactions with children. Love allows children to grow through their mistakes. Logic allows children to live with the consequences of their choices.

Kathy will be giving you the tools you need to reduce your stress level, build your confidence and make parenting fun again! You will learn how to set limits in a loving way, make enforceable statements and teach your kids problem solving skills. These techniques produce immediate results because they are simple, practical and easy to learn.

2010 WELL Expo

Presented by Modern Bliss magazine, WELL Expo will feature up to 100 vendor booths and a full schedule of celebrity guest appearances, book signings, medical expert Q&As, and fitness demonstrations. Join New Self at the Alliant Energy Center as we help people learn to "Make Life Balance."

On Sunday at 1:30 pm, New Self member Molly Butz will be presenting "Biggest Loser Motivation, Real World Application" as she talks about her experience losing more than 30 pounds in 12 weeks as part of Madison's local Biggest Loser competition.

Family Fun Day

Madison's Biggest Loser

On November 12, New Self’s Biggest Loser team was featured on NBC 15’s 5 pm news. Anchor Chris Papst visited New Self to meet our team and talk about what the contestants are gaining as they continue to shed the pounds. View the video of this story, or click here for more news updates.

Congratulations to New Self team member Michelle Sanger for being the Biggest Loser for week 3. Michelle lost the greatest percentage of weight this week.

    Join our favorite coffee roasters from Johnson Brothers Coffee as they teach us about the history of coffee, the difference between “light” and “dark” roasted coffee and what “fair trade” really means. The roasters will provide samples of 4-5 different coffees and explain the practice of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee.

The Hanson Family Jazz Band

    Join us for an evening of delightful jazz standards with the Hanson Family Jazz Band. The band has played in the Madison area since 1981 and features original members (and brothers) Erik (drums) and David (piano) Hanson, along with David’s daughter (and New Self’s own) Melissa Thorson-Hanson on vocals, singing the songs that her grandmother sang in the band before her passing in 2006.
